Spir for Slack
What is Spir?
Spir is a scheduling tool that connects to your Google Calendar or Outlook calendar and turns your real availability into a link you can share. When your guest picks a time from that link, Spir adds the event to the organizer's calendar and, depending on your settings, sends your guest a calendar invitation — no back-and-forth emails, no double bookings.
Teams use Spir for sales calls, candidate interviews, customer onboarding, and internal meetings.
What Spir for Slack does
Connect Spir to your Slack workspace and Spir posts a message to the channel you choose when an event is booked through one of your team templates, or when that event is later changed or canceled. Your team finds out about new bookings without anyone opening Spir.
Team templates send four kinds of notification:
| Notification | When it is sent |
| Event created | A guest books a time from your team template |
| Event modified | A team member changes an event organized by another teammate, on that teammate's behalf |
| Event deleted | A team member deletes an event organized by another teammate, on that teammate's behalf |
| Event canceled | The guest cancels the event themselves |
Event modified and Event deleted are sent when someone uses Manage another member's schedule, a Team plan feature. Changes made directly in Google Calendar or Outlook do not send a notification.
Every notification includes the template's private title, the event's public title, the date and time, and the attendees (including their email addresses). Depending on the type, it can also include:
- Event created — the video call link, rooms, form answers, the description your guest entered, and a link to open the event in Spir
- Event modified — what changed (such as the date and time or the event's notes) and the reason entered
- Event deleted — the reason entered
- Event canceled — rooms and the guest's comment
Team template notifications are written in the language set in the organizer's Spir account.

Notifications from forms with rules
Forms with rules, available on paid plans, can also post to Slack when someone submits a response. The message includes the respondent's name and email address, their answers, and which rules were run. Set it up from Notification Slack channel in the form editor. These notifications follow the language of the person who last edited the form.
Before you start
- A Spir account. Slack notifications are available on the Free plan.
- A team and at least one team template.
- Permission to add apps to your Slack workspace.
How to connect Spir to Slack
The button that installs Spir into Slack lives inside the Spir web app, so log in to Spir first.
- Go to app.spirinc.com, sign up, and connect your Google or Outlook calendar.
- Create a team, then open the Templates tab.
- Click Create template, or open an existing template with the pencil icon.
- In the template editor, scroll down to Notification settings.
- Under Slack channel, click Select.

- A Slack window opens. Choose the workspace, choose the channel you want notifications in, and click Allow.

- You are returned to Spir, where the workspace and channel are now shown. Click Save to save the template.

After you connect
Check that it worked. When you click Allow, the Slack window closes and you return to the template editor. If the workspace and channel you picked appear under Slack channel, the connection succeeded. Click Save to finish. Notifications for this template won't start until you save.
Send yourself a test notification. Open your template's booking page, book a time as a guest, and check the channel. An Event created message arrives shortly after. The test booking is added to your calendar, so cancel it when you are done.
Change the channel. In the template editor, click Remove under Slack channel, click Select again, pick a different channel, and click Save.
Stop notifications. Click Remove and save the template. You can also remove Spir from your Slack workspace at any time from your Slack settings.
Notifications are set per template, so you can send different templates to different channels — for example bookings from a sales template to #sales, and interviews to #recruiting.
What Spir sends to Slack
Spir asks for a single Slack permission, incoming-webhook, and uses it only to post to the channel you selected. Spir does not read your messages, list your channels, or post anywhere you did not choose.
Spir sends the notification content described above: information about your events and forms, such as titles, dates and times, the names and email addresses of attendees and form respondents, the name of the team member who changed or deleted an event, rooms, video call links, event notes, form answers and the results of form rules, messages and reasons that were entered, and links to open the event in Spir.
For details on how Spir handles your data, see our Privacy Policy.
